Decorating Envelopes

I have a quick and cheap way to add some pizazz to boring envelopes. Envelope liners start anywhere from $.50 and up! To DIY is a pain and can be almost as costly once you get all the supplies. While I was planning my wedding I wasn’t necessarily interested in the envelopes , but when I couldn’t find any nice invitations that included butterflies, I decided to get plain white envelopes and do my own butterfly decor.

I got a stamp from Michael’s when they had the big bin discounts and got ink in my wedding color. The placement is one of the hardest things, along with making sure the stamp is entirely covered. To make sure the stamp has enough ink, I simply pressed the stamp down pretty hard and rocked it back and forth in all directions. For placement, I did a couple test envelopes to see what I liked best. This will also give you an idea for what areas of the stamp are tricky to cover.

For the butterflies I started with a saturated stamp for the first impression, then continued to use the stamp with out re-inking and did a fluttering effect so it wrapped the top of the envelope. photo(2)

For my friend’s engagement shower I tied the envelopes in to the nautical theme by using anchor and sailboat stamps in her wedding colors. Everyone loved them and it really adds a nice little touch for less than $5.
